{"id":210,"date":"2014-03-27T20:28:01","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T03:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/?p=210"},"modified":"2014-03-27T20:28:01","modified_gmt":"2014-03-28T03:28:01","slug":"seasonal-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/?p=210","title":{"rendered":"Seasonal Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/The-Sunny-Side-of-the-River_edited-2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-209\" alt=\"The Sunny Side of the River_edited-2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/The-Sunny-Side-of-the-River_edited-2.jpg?resize=300%2C194&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/The-Sunny-Side-of-the-River_edited-2.jpg?resize=300%2C194&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/joanmetcalf.com\/joanmetcalfstudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/The-Sunny-Side-of-the-River_edited-2.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather is getting warmer, the camellia bushes are in bloom and several different flowers are popping up in my yard, so my thoughts are starting to turn to watercolors.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve spent the last several months painting nothing but oils on canvas, but it is starting to be the time I like best to concentrate on watercolors, since my paper is less likely to be dried out from either the furnace or air conditioner blowing on it as I work.<\/p>\n<p>CONVERTING MY STUDIO<\/p>\n<p>It only takes about an hour to switch my materials from oils to watercolors, but it will take a couple of days to get my thinking switched.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t believe that old saying that watercolors are &#8220;unforgiving&#8221;, but I do know that I will have to concentrate a little harder to ensure that I keep the colors fresh and not over-worked.<\/p>\n<p>The painting above , &#8220;The Sunny Side of the River&#8221;, 40&#8243; x 60&#8243;, was the last watercolor I did last year and sold to a couple who wanted a painting with the &#8220;wow factor&#8221; for their all-white living room.\u00a0 I loved that description because the reason I paint so many autumn landscapes is that they have more &#8220;wow&#8221; potential.\u00a0 So, in spite of the blossoms now surrounding my studio, I&#8217;ll still be working on autumn scenes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The weather is getting warmer, the camellia bushes are in bloom and several different flowers are popping up in my yard, so my thoughts are starting to turn to watercolors.
