Painting Cheer

“Resurging Growth” 36″ x 48″ oil and metal leaf on canvas – $4,700

During my many years as a professional artist, I have uplifted my spirits through creating cheerful paintings, and hopefully, cheered others who viewed them. I have never continued to paint daily during such a horrible atmosphere of countries and individuals trying to destroy each other by whatever means they possess – bombs, guns, indictments, lawsuits, and insults.

I try to start each day looking at artwork on the internet and museums filled with beautiful art created by artists who had personal difficulties and then I go to my studio and listen to music by composers who did the same. In this way, I try to lift my spirits and think of future viewers of the painting I’m working on and hope that it will lift their spirits as well as they turn away from the bombardment of disastrous news.

Green is the color which most calms me and I enjoy sitting on our deck and looking at all of the green that surrounds me with trees and plants. Soon, nature will also cheer me with new yellows and reds as some of the trees enter their autumn phase, but there will still be a lot of green from fir trees and plants.

I rarely meet the people who rent and purchase my paintings, so I have no idea if they find them as cheerful as I intended. On a few occasions, the purchaser has contacted and told me that it cheered them and how much they enjoyed it. This also lifts my own spirits as did the news by my gallery that an elderly gentleman purchased the following paintings to create cheer in his home following the death of his wife. It made all of the hours, weeks and months that I worked on the paintings worth all of the effort.
