Already Thinking of Spring

“Spring Rejuvenation” 36″ x 48″ oil and metal leaf on canvas – $4,300

Here it is, the end of October and I’m already thinking of spring, beautiful blossoms and the promise of warm weather. I usually paint subjects out of season because of fall and spring shows, but I already have my spring paintings completed and I’m even working on another cherry blossom tree at the moment.

I know that my current state of mind is caused by the bombardment of bad news of the world and making it difficult for me to think in terms of creativity and cheer, but I need to re-charge my waning optimism.

“Festive Spring” 40″ x 60″ oil and metal leaf on canvas – $6,000

I have chosen a purposeful plan to set new creative goals and follow through. I need to think of new ways to paint the same subjects, try new methods of applying the gold and silver metal leaf and come up with a list of new subjects to paint so that I don’t get into a creative rut.

This month I experimented with a new approach to the color of the backgrounds of my paintings and found it stimulating as I painted each blossom and leaf. I hope to finish it next week and start on a new subject of Ginkgo trees.
