As I sit on my deck with my morning coffee, I am so grateful to have the glorious gifts of three vine maple trees with their arching trunks, graceful branches and abundant green leaves. I will enjoy them even more in the coming months as they transition into gold and red in a spectacular display of autumn.

“Shades of Autumn” is composed from the vine maple tree at the back of the studio which has trunks that are vertical as well as an enormous trunk branching off to the right and constantly pleasing me with its graceful arc. I have created most of my vine maple tree paintings from this tree, including the painting below.

The branches of the vine maple tree at the side of the studio drape over my skylights as well as the front door. “Shimmering Autumn” illustrates the view I have of the leaves as I leave the studio each night. This is the second painting of that view and all of these paintings have appeared in Pomegranate’s several years of calendars. “Seasonal Harmony” is also printed as one of the four paintings in a set of notecards.
