Most of my landscapes are a composite of different scenic sites around the Pacific Northwest, but many of my paintings are of the trees surrounding my studio. When we built our house, we were thrilled to find a corner lot with several fir trees and even a large oak, but the three vine maple trees were what made us the happiest.
My studio’s dimensions were dictated by those trees on three corners, but I’ve never been sorry to have a smaller studio as long as the vine maples continue to make our view an ever-changing delight. From early spring when the first tiny leaves appear, turning bright yellow green, then a darker green foliage as they develop and finally, the golds, oranges and reds of autumn. I even enjoy the bare branches in winter because they are so graceful and sculptural.
In my latest painting, I decided to combine all the colors from early spring through fall, with some bare limbs for contrast.
Below is my oil painting – “Seasonal Panorama”, a 24″ x 48″ canvas.
