Rental/Sales Gallery Spring Show

Metcalf, Joan - Spring Greens_edited-3

The opening of the Portland Art Museum Rental/Sales Gallery spring show is set for April 18 from 5-8 p.m.  New art works from gallery artists were juried from 400 submissions and show a variety of styles, sizes and prices.

My painting (above) will be included in the show.  It is “Spring Greens, a 60″ x 36” oil and wax on canvas. It was shown in one of my earlier blogs before it was completed.

The gallery, which was started by a few artists in 1959, has survived several moves – from the basement of the museum to the Masonic Temple, back to the museum gift shop and more recently to the Eliot Towers at 1237 S.W. 10th Avenue.  It currently boasts 240 artists and is staffed by numerous volunteers to assist the director, Jennifer Zika.

I have been exhibiting in the gallery since 1965 and have enjoyed the association with the other artists. The openings are always a wonderful opportunity to reconnect and to  meet the clients who also attend.  Besides the spring show, there is also a fall opening in October and a June exhibit of new artists to the gallery.  Hours are 10-5 every day except Monday.
