“Ecola Park” 41″ x 29″ unframed watercolor – $1,900
I am thankful daily for my many blessings, but this Thanksgiving I am aware of even more reasons to be thankful. Topping the list, of course, are my personal reasons of family, health and home, but my career list is growing daily.
Recently my favorite gallery closed (not a reason to be thankful), but my instant reaction was. Although I am sad because the space was beautiful and the staff friendly and supportive, I realized that I had so many more options than I had in the past. I have been through several gallery closures over the years and I was always devastated by them and the decisions of finding new gallery representation.
This time, I reached back to previous associations with four art consultants in separate cities and offered to send CD’s of my returned inventory for them to show to their clients. The responses were enthusiastic, but time will tell if this is a good option.
In the meantime I’m thankful that I have a studio large enough to store the returned paintings until I locate another physical gallery to exhibit my work.
I’m also thankful that in the current art world there are so many more places to give exposure to my work than actual gallery venues. Besides my own website, my paintings and giclees are on several on-line galleries, offering opportunities unheard of in the past. One such is an art publisher who discovered my work and includes some giclees in their catalog and art fairs.
My most recent blessing is that I have finally learned how to photograph my paintings well, crop the images and send them to various people by e-mail and CD’s. This has been an enormous challenge for someone coming to computer technology late in life.
Finally, I am so grateful to live in such a beautiful state that affords me an abundance of inspiration for my paintings. The painting above is of a tree in Ecola Park, near Cannon Beach, Oregon.
