For the second year, the Rental/Sales Gallery fall show opening will be a costume party as well as a celebration of over 200 new works by gallery artists.  Last year it seemed that as many people were looking at the artists as the art work and it was a scene of much hilarity.

For those who want to participate (costume optional) the event will take place October 23 between 5 and 8 p.m. at 1237 S.W. 10th Ave.

I hope to look festive, if not in costume.  I’m too busy painting and trying to complete several metal leaf paintings to think about a creative costume, but I really enjoy seeing the imagination and humor that artists, staff and volunteers employ in creating theirs.  Last year Jennifer Zika, the director of the gallery, came as a slice of gluten-free pizza!

Because of an inventory of larger works than usual, the gallery requested artists to submit paintings of smaller dimensions this year and many of them did so.  As usual, my own submissions were larger since I prefer them and the above painting was selected for the show. It will be the first of my metal leaf paintings to be exhibited at the gallery.
