Cheering Myself With Bright Colors

Shimmering Poppy Garden_edited-1

“Shimmering Poppy Garden”  36″ x 48″ oil and metal leaf on canvas – $4,000

I have found, over the years, that I tend to paint brighter colors when I’m sad, depressed or having too much Oregon rain.  Lately, the global and national news filled with fear, frustration and angry name-calling has had a definite effect on my paintings.  They are getting brighter !

I wish I could avoid hearing all the bad news, but like everyone, I need to be informed.  I just have to overcome my own mood and try to find tranquility when I’m painting.  I still find peace and solace in the studio and when I quiet my mind with serene and beautiful music, I can let my creativity soar. I’m enjoying painting with metal leaf and the shimmering brightness and colorful oils lift my spirits immensely.

In the painting above, I wanted to include the full color spectrum as well as many types of flowers.  I think I definitely got the “bright” right.
