We just delivered the paintings for my September shows at Salishan and Sheridan Lawrence Galleries. It was a relief having both shows completed and I would like to say that I’m now taking time to relax, but I have another deadline coming up in a couple of weeks, so I’m back to painting long hours.
Summer is ending, but the most exciting season for me is just beginning. The colorful leaves of autumn always inspire me and I actually think of fall as a beginning and a fresh start. No doubt much of that thinking comes from many years of starting school in the fall and the excitement of new classes, teachers and seeing friends again.
DEVELOPING NEW TECHNIQUES
Several new things are happening to inspire me. I now have a digital projector and I’m learning how to crop and flip my landscape photos to create new images to paint. I have used slides for many years and have worn out several slide projectors. It is harder than ever to get slides developed now and I’ve had to buy used slide projectors in order to view my slides since new projectors are no longer available. It was definitely time to make a change.
A new medium for me this year has been oil paint and cold wax combination and I’m continuing to develop new ways to paint with it. I’m also starting to use Gamblin’s gel mixed in with my oils and I’m finding the application of the oil paint much easier.
The painting above is included in my show at Salishan Lawrence Gallery. It is “River’s Path”, a 36″ x 48″ oil and wax on canvas.
