I have spent the last few months concentrating solely on painting grapevines for a two-week show that opened Sept. 28th with a delightful reception at the Cathedral Ridge Winery in Hood River, Oregon.

We hung nine paintings of various sizes, all depicting a different season of grape development and varieties in the large “barrel room” of the winery and wondered how it would look the evening of the reception, since there were few lights visible at that point.  The winery staff transformed the room with party lights surrounding a stack of barrels on one end of the room, added more lights on the ceiling and created a warm, inviting atmosphere for the event.

Tables covered appropriately with wine colored cloths were placed near the wine tasting bar and a loaded table of nibbles and desserts, The weather was warm and several people chose to sit outside at patio tables.  It was a very enjoyable evening, mostly spent in describing my oil and metal leaf technique to interested patrons, some of whom were also artists.

The paintings above are two of the collection, which will be on display at the winery until Oct. 14.
